Loneliest China Place

Did a sneak attack on these lovely people who didn't know I was lurking their town (or even state).
Greg, Christoper Bongload, TG, Chains, Friz, and me
Tyson seduced the crowd per usual at Dwelling Spaces in Downtown Tulsa (2nd & Detroit).
Tyson was selling his paintings- this one is really great.
Lover of boats and fine wine
Undesirables
I like this one.
Johannes and Tyson. Johannes did a great job of helping put these shows together and is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. (Tyson too, for that matter)

If you'd like to help Tyson and co. make a great album in China, please do what you can by chipping in over here. It's so much appreciated and if anyone deserves the support it's Tyson.

Sour Grapes

Video days. You can buy Joel's video O.L.D. here it comes with bonus features, including the entire Smash Promo.
Pat- harsh ollie
Joel Ortiz- frontside rock
Braden, Joel, and Alan at the "Desert Euro".
Gals.
This ditch and the view out here rule; Joel- cruiser board feeble
Buy your gear, skate the bench, and people watch here- Microwave Skateshop 107 4th St.
Patrick.
This place is ridiculous with options- Ray learned to skate here.
Tristen- crooked grind at "Egg Man's marble ledges".
Here's the color shot of Ray's introductory Smash Ad.
These dudes are hyped on all the windows and second floor views here.
Mike in Sepia.
Pat- ollie
Mike- kickflip
The Jemez mountains and this general zone around Los Alamos are some of the raddest views you'll ever see. Suck it, Colorado.
Pat, Braden, Matt, and Kurt
This bank is ridiculously fun- it reminds me of the classic Nor Cal parks like Benicia, Santa Rosa, and Derby. These noseblunt slides were so fun and made a cool screeching noise. I felt like Tim Brauch. (rip)
Kurt- no comply
Pat- ollie (I promise he can do more than ollie, this is just what I have- 3 ollies in one post.)

Don't Stop Partying

Well, here it is- official premiere date. So stoked for people to see the Smash vid and to see Joel's. Most of all I just hope a lot of money gets raised so we can build tons of fun shit to skate!

Fambly

This
Plus this
Equals this

I have a huge pet peeve of people using music for skate projects (even just online) and not giving the band a credit at the end of the video. Don't worry I'm not going to go into the old "skateboarding and punk rock went hand-in-hand" spiel, because I'm really not that old. I also am not going to hop on the Lil' Wayne train because he goes into skateparks after hours and does kickturns. I'm trying to find a happy medium and if not give great bands more coverage, at least give them the credit for their fucking songs. Music can make or break footage and often times will lead you into finding your new favorite band (maybe not now, but I'm trying to do that again).

When I started making this the first obvious choices for songs were releases from ex-pro skateboarder, musician, and label owner Todd Congelliere's Recess Records. Eventually I just said "fuck it" and put Recess songs throughout the whole video. Not only do I tell you the band, song, and album it's on I also got Todd's personal permission to use said songs. While I have an open line of communication with Todd, and would even call him a buddy, I understand this isn't always the case. So even if you can't get in touch with the chodes from Band of Horses or dudes making this dubstep bullshit everyone seems to be into (I remember when it was just called "techno"), at least put who the artist is at the end of your little video.

A Salty Salute

I'm very happy the Board Shop and Damien are leaving on a high note. It's
really great to finally see the video they were working on between all the other
projects those cats get into.  An extra special thanks for throwing in my little
noseblunt slide- it's an honor to be a part of this even in the tiniest capacity.

(my apologies for the goofy spacing, no clue why it's coming out like that.)

Positively Wall Street

Stucco ledge ditch- rad views per usual.
Tony Cervantes, Jamie Thomas, and Garret Hill- I didn't get their autographs, I was busy buying the fancy Pendleton/Vans instead.
 New nip at the foundation.
John rips and rips even harder for getting us into Public Enemy for free!
 Marcos punched a truck.
 Ray Chavez- classically trained
 The Vert Vamp
Did Joel drop in on a tombstone?  You're gonna have to wait for the video...

If the kids are united, they will never be divided

Before moving I was really excited to go to this and bring art and product for the great skate scene of Little Rock (and surrounding areas, of course) to sell so they can keep D.I.Y.-ing at Kanis Skatepark.  Today I realized that instead of sending stuff and spending a heap on shipping in doing so, it may be better for everyone to simply paypal them some loot and they can get it instantly.  With a bag of concrete only costing around 4 bucks, they could get a bunch done if everyone could at least give a little.  There are two great sites you can contribute money or simply go to their party and do it in person.  We need spots like this across the country and we should all do our part whether it's in our zone or not- send what you can if you can here or here.

Thanks for reading and I'm sure it's much appreciated if you contributed,

Brad

She Watch Channel Zero

I'm sure not many of you are too worried about it, just wanted to tell you I'm aware that I said the Smash Promo would be out in April and it's now May 1st.  The truth is we got to Albuquerque and more people got involved (which will make this thing better) and we all pretty much have stuff we still want to film before completion.  It's going to be premiering here in ABQ sometime/somewhere in June as kind of an "opening band" to my friend Joel's video that will be much better.  Don't worry if you care to see it and can't make it out to the premiere, I'll put it online as soon as it's done for free and will make a few hard copies for the few people that actually want to watch things away from their computer.

As a consolation- here's an iPhone video I filmed of Public Enemy playing "Show 'Em Whatcha Got" and "Bring the Noise" in the rain in Santa Fe.  That's fair, right?

You don't give her anything to look forward to

Yesterday Mike and me skated around downtown and this chick gets out of a car and asks if she can take Mike's picture.  She's instantly drawn to his Shark Bait t-shirt and inquires what it is.  He leads her in my direction and I tell her that it's not a 'zine CALLED "Hella Shitty" it's a 'zine called Shark Bait that IS "Hella Shitty".  Then she asked about my shirt, which is weird because I rarely rock these shirts, and I explained it was a friend and I's skateboard company and Mike rode for it.  She was really cool about it and asked if we had a website and if we wouldn't mind being on hers.  Sure enough the next day, (today) it was on the site with links leading here.  Thanks a lot for throwing the free advertising this way, to go see her article check here.  Also, there will be "hella shitty" t-shirts again soon, so check back if you missed out the first time around.  It's also pretty funny how I didn't get a job at hipster ground zero (Urban Outfitters) and then a week later I'm randomly on a fashion blog!

Blog Wars

Last May we saw The Arrivals and Toys that Kill in Oklahoma City. I recorded a few songs with my iPhone and noticed there was one I'd never heard. Once I got home I went through all their albums and could not find the song in the video. Turn the page to 11 months later and I see on Facebook, the blog with the shitty name (Brooklyn Vegan) is streaming 2 songs off the soon to be released Toys that Kill album "Fambly 42" (info & tour dates!) and then I realize that there wasn't some Toys that Kill record I'd missed, it was a very premature live performance that is setting a nice tone of me being stoked out of my face for this new record. Really hyped to see them and pick this up when they come to ABQ in May!

Sincerely,
OkieNewMexicanCarnivore

(ps- I have nothing against that blog or however people choose to eat, just think it's a stupid name.)

They love Jesus and America too

So stoked my buddy Pod got interviewed on one of the most respected skateboarding news sites by one of the most respected skate photographers ever! (link) I was extremely flattered to get a little shout out in there!
These UNM spots are going to be so fun once I figure out how to skate them like less of a wuss- Ray and Mikey kill them! (Mike- lipslide)
On my birthday the other day we drove out to the Hard Rock Casino and lost some loot. We did get to see some funny rock memorabilia though- like Axl's stupid leather kilt.
Have already gotten some good sessions in around Mikey's neighborhood and the UNM campus. Skating here is a weird compromise- the ground is way smoother, but the joints (lines) in the sidewalk are extremely deep and it throws me off when I'm setting up for tricks. Not complaining a bit, because the ground really is really nice- just trying to get used to the differences.
I would high-five the shit out of whoever took the time to
do this!Mikey is in an art show tomorrow based around fonts/typography. Here's his contribution "Salisbury Steak and Destroy".
